However, priority will be given to Doctoral course students (DC) and post-doctors (PD) (PD).
Master's degree students (MC) and undergraduate (BC) are also accepted.
*This seminar will be conducted in Japanese only.
We have invited three business people who are active in the industry after graduating from a doctoral course in a humanities or social science graduate school to talk about how the knowledge and education they gained at a humanities or social science graduate school can be utilized in the industry, and about the reality of corporate activities and their appeal, which are difficult to learn about at a university.
Lecturer Introduction
Mr. Hiroto Hashizume, Tobacco Research Center, Public Interest Foundation
Doctoral Doctoral course School of Human Sciences, Osaka University (Human Sciences)
Title: "At the nexus between corporate and academic perspectives: working as a researcher at a public interest foundation"
profile:
After entering the School of Human Sciences at Osaka University in 2008, he majored in sociology and began researching the relationship between social class and social consciousness using statistical analysis of social survey data. His first theme was "Determinants of life satisfaction."
In 2012, he entered the Graduate School of Human Sciences at the same university, and throughout his pre-doctoral and post-doctoral studies, he began researching the impact that life events such as unemployment and separation or death of family members have on "subjective well-being."
In 2017, he left school with sufficient credits to take up his current position. He has also worked as a part-time lecturer at a university since 2018. In 2020, he obtained Ph.D. and is still working there today.
Ms. Ai Takamura, Shiseido Co., Ltd.
Doctor of Humanities, Department of Psychology, Graduate School of Humanities and Sciences, Ochanomizu University
Title: "Working in industry as a doctoral researcher - what do you want to achieve through your work?"
profile:
Graduated from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Letters and Education, Ochanomizu University in March 2013. Completed the Psychology Course in Human Development Science at the Graduate School of Humanities and Sciences, Ochanomizu University in March 2015. PhD (Humanities). During her doctoral studies, she worked as a TA at Ochanomizu University, a part-time researcher at the University of Tsukuba, and a research student at the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry.
After joining Shiseido Co., Ltd. in April 2018, he has worked in product development and digital transformation, and is currently in charge of market analysis and research (psychology-related).
Mr. Shigenori Tokiwa, Sakai City Cultural Promotion Foundation
Graduated from Osaka University Doctoral course Program
Title: "Career areas for humanities doctorates in the cultural and arts public sector, or a lifestyle in which it becomes one's job before one realizes it"
profile:
Born in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture in 1990. After working at Kiyo Bank Ltd. and Kyoto City Hall, he assumed his current position in 2021.
As an art coordinator, she plans and manages projects that connect the community with the arts and nurture future artists at elementary and junior high schools, kindergartens, children's cafeterias, welfare facilities, and other locations.
As a form of personal expression, he has been the founder of the Amikitia Orchestra since 2015. He has been questioning the role of orchestras in society, linking musical expression with the history, lifestyle, memory and culture of the region and its people.
