Participant comments
- Through theory and practical simulations, I was able to understand the psychological biases that occur in negotiations, how to deal with them, and what constitutes a desirable negotiation approach.
- In the first half of the lecture, I was able to identify some habits I tend to fall into during negotiations. In the second half, I learned about how to extract information from the other party and how to share my own information during negotiations.
- In negotiations, it is important to provide both yourself and the other party with ample opportunities to showcase your strengths. Finding the greatest common denominator between both sides, while taking into account the other party's appeals, will lead to a final agreement.
- If I had someone I wanted to collaborate with, and I hadn't studied negotiation, all I could do was ask for the collaboration. I realized I needed to think about what the other person was researching, what their goals were, and what benefits I could offer them without them having to play their trump card, before negotiating. I also realized that I lacked the ability to delve deeper into the other person's information and praise them in research conversations, so I want to improve this in my future research activities.
