What is Center for Advanced Human Resource Education and Development?
Center for Advanced Human Resource Education and Development is working to support the career design of Doctoral course students (DC) and post-doctors (PD) (PD), share these policies by forming consortia with partner universities, and improve the research environment for diverse research talent through collaboration both inside and outside the university. In addition, by working with the Career Center, it provides consistent career education and career support from undergraduate to doctoral level.
It consists of Center for Advanced Human Resource Education and Development 's Senior Human Resource Development Division (S-cubic, Hokudai International Human Resource Development Program) and Consortium Office for Fostering of Researchers in Future Generations(COFRe).
Senior Human Resources Development Department
We want young researchers who have obtained Ph.D. to make the most of their expertise and demonstrate their abilities to the fullest in academia, private companies, public institutions, etc. The Advanced Human Resource Development Stations (S-cubic, Hokudai International Human Resource Development Program) are working to build and operate various programs and systems to achieve this. S-cubic offers programs in Japanese, while Hokudai International Human Resource Development Program offers programs in English, and both programs can be taken by both Japanese and international students. In addition, Hokudai International Human Resource Development Program offers programs for international students on choosing their career path in Japan.

About this project
This project was initiated in 2014, with Hokkaido University as the representative institution, together with Tohoku University and Nagoya University, applying for and being accepted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Project to Build a Consortium for Developing Human Resources in Science and Technology (Program for Nurturing the Next Generation of Researchers)." Since its inception, the three universities have formed a "consortium" and are pooling their research human resource development resources to promote the construction of a system for developing next-generation research human resources targeting a variety of fields.
The Consortium Concept
The consortium of three of Japan's leading comprehensive universities, the external evaluation committee, and partner institutions (overseas partner universities and research institutes, domestic and overseas companies, etc.) that serve as training destinations will come together to share the rich research environment and human resource development resources possessed by the three universities, building a common science and technology human resource development platform that allows doctoral researchers to choose diverse career paths, while ensuring a mechanism to promote mobility and building a collaborative development system for researchers who will lead the next generation. We aim to further enhance the consortium by promoting the sharing, co-hosting, and provision of participation slots for programs possessed by the three universities in the future.
Consortium's human resource development policy and philosophy
The three universities will effectively share their accumulated know-how and resources on research and human resource development, further promoting the deepening of expertise in an autonomous environment for young researchers, and nurturing the next generation of science and technology talent with the qualities to demonstrate their true value in a variety of settings both domestically and internationally, i.e., internationality and transferable skills. In addition, a relatively long training period of five years will be set in principle, encouraging participants to acquire the basic skills necessary for researchers in a multifaceted manner. This project consists of two types of programs: the "Program for Nurturing the Next Generation of Researchers" for fixed-term assistant professors, etc., and the "Innovation Creation Human Resources Collaborative Development Program" for PDs and DCs.
