I-HoP:Being with Yourself, Not Against Yourself: Mindfulness for Flourishing in Graduate School【マインドフルネスセミナー英語版】

This transferable skills seminar is targeted for researchers (MC, DC, PD).

Seminar will be conducted in English.

Graduate school often pulls our attention outward—toward deadlines, expectations, and comparisons with others. But how often do we bring that awareness inward, toward ourselves? Together, we’ll explore how cultivating awareness of the present moment can help us reconnect with our own values, calm our inner critic, and meet our work—and ourselves—with greater compassion and clarity through simple, brief mindfulness practices.

This isn’t about escaping stress, but about learning to attend to it differently—with a sense of curiosity, kindness, and awareness. Join us to discover how “being with yourself, not against yourself” can transform the way you experience and flourish in graduate school. Come as you are—no prior experience needed, just an open mind and a willingness to be here, now.

Lecturer

Mr. Kento Suzuki

Representative Director,
Mindful Awareness Cultivation Association

Kento Suzuki graduated from Brown University as a full scholarship recipient (BA, MPH), and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies at Pennsylvania State University. Supported by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Overseas Study Support Program, his research integrates neuroscience, psychology, and physiology to investigate how shared musical experiences between parents and children—by fostering mindfulness, or “non-judgmental awareness of the present-moment experience”—influence perinatal mental health and parent–child attachment.

As the founder and director of the Mindful Awareness Cultivation, Kento organizes monthly online gatherings to engage in contemplative practices and discuss current research in the field. Since 2023, he has also collaborated with professional musicians to plan and hold Mindfulness Concerts for diverse audiences, with a particular focus on parents and children. Additionally, he leads a weekly class at a Japanese public high school, facilitating a cross-cultural exchange program that incorporates contemplative practices.
