SynFOSTER 2012 was held.

On Thursday, January 26, 2012, the “SynFOSTER 2012” Symposium on the Development of Young Human Resources was held at the conference hall of Hokkaido University.
Launched in FY2008, the annual SynFOSTER symposium series is now in its fourth year. The series aims to gather people responsible for human resource development programs on campus, toward enhancing mutual understanding and collaboration. SynFOSTER also aims at familiarizing people on and off campus with Hokkaido University’s efforts to develop excellent human resources.
In Part I of the symposium, keynote lectures were given by Shuichiro Itakura, Director of the Policy Division, Science and Technology Policy Bureau, MEXT, and by Osamu Kumagai, corporate executive and president of the Advanced Materials Laboratories at Sony Corp. Part I also included a panel discussion on the theme of “the state and future of the tenure-track system at Hokkaido University. ” In Part II, examples of appealing academic education provided on campus were explained. In Part III, a poster session introducing human resource development programs on campus was held and participants exchanged information. Part III had 128 participants, including 13 people from 8 external organizations.
At the poster session, brief presentations were given regarding 30 human resource development programs shown in posters. It was also an opportunity for active exchanges of views and sharing of information among participants. The symposium was concluded successfully, and it greatly contributed to the development of a coherent human resource development system unique to Hokkaido University.
